WHAT IS POLYMER COATING?
Since its early inception in the 1960s, polymer coating/powder coating has revolutionized the finishing process for a wide range of metal and fabricated products and has become a preferred alternative to wet spray painting. Powder coating/ Polymer coating is a dry process that entails the application of a colored powder. It works via electrostatic spray deposition (ESD).
Our metal polymer coating services are completed by experienced professionals who always strive to exceed expectations regarding quality, service and on-time delivery. We consistently meet the powder coating and fabrication needs of companies of all types and sizes in industries such as pharmaceutical, military and defense.

WHAT IS HALAR® COATING?
Halar® ECTFE is a partially fluorinated semi-crystalline polymer offering a unique combination of mechanical properties, permeation resistance, thermal and chemical resistance, and versatility.
Halar® ECTFE is a melt processable fluoropolymer manufactured by Solvay Solexis. Its unique combination of properties is credited to its chemical structure, a 1:1 alternating copolymer of ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene.
PROPERTIES OF HALAR® COATING
Halar® coatings provide outstanding chemical resistance. It is resistant to strong mineral and oxidizing acids, alkalis, metal etchants, liquid oxygen, and essentially all organic solvents except hot amines. Halar® coatings provide good electrical properties, a broad use temperature range from cryogenic to 300°F (150°C), meets the requirements of UL-94V-O vertical flame test in thicknesses as low as 7 mils (0.18mm) and in some cases meets USP Class VI and FDA food contact (21 CFR) requirements. It is a tough material with excellent impact strength.
Details :
-
Excellent resistance to strong acids (sulfuric, nitric, hydrochloric and hydrofluoric) over a wide temperature range
-
Resists strong bases such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide that would stress crack PVDF
-
Easily handles powder bleaching agents such as sodium hypochlorite
-
Resists strong polar solvents such as NMP and DMF
-
Not dissolved by any known solvent to 150ºC (300ºF)
-
Best radiation resistance of all fluoropolymers
-
Ozone-resistant
-
Excellent barrier properties, 10 to 100 times better than PTFE or FEP to oxygen, carbon dioxide, chlorine gas or hydrochloric acid
-
Excellent hydrogen permeation resistance
-
Low permeability to water vapor and other gases
-
Good electrical properties
-
Extremely low levels of metallic and organic extractable
-
Very low fluoride leach-out

Additional dynamic rinse data validate Halar® ECTFE as suitable for high purity systems in the semiconductor, biotech, and pharmaceutical industries
-
UL-94 V-0 vertical burn at 0.18 mm
-
Low flame spread, low smoke generation
-
Excellent mechanical properties over a temperature range from cryogenic to 150°C (300°F)
-
Excellent abrasion resistance
-
Nylon-like durability provides excellent impact resistance at ambient and sub-ambient temperatures
-
Excellent weathering resistance
-
Good tensile, flexural and wear-related properties
-
Extraordinary surface smoothness as measured by SEM and AFM
-
Significantly reduced bio-organic films and bacterial colonies compared to electropolished stainless steel and PVDF.
APPLICATIONS OF HALAR® COATING
Above characteristics have made Halar® the material of choice for many applications across multiple industries. It has been widely utilized in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and microelectronics industries for chemical resistance. Since 1990 Halar® powder coatings have been successfully used for corrosion protection of exhaust duct systems that must meet the FM 4922 fire safety standard. Halar® coatings have also been used to replace PVDF sheet linings in ultrapure water (UPW) systems.
As you can see, Halar® is a versatile material with almost limitless applications. Please contact us if you would like to learn more about Halar® coatings.
